I just love the dipping sauce at teppanyaki restaurants. You know, those places where the chef does tricks and cooks in front of you? It's been forever since we've been to one, so I decided to create one of my own with this easy beef teriyaki and yum yum sauce recipe.
Yum yum sauce is easier than you think to make! While every restaurant has different recipes, I feel like this is a good one. If you want it less thick just add a couple tablespoons of water and stir.

How to Make Yum Yum Sauce and Teriyaki Beef
In a large bowl, combine the beef, vegetables and marinade and let marinate for 25 minutes in fridge.
Meanwhile, whisk together the mayo, garlic powder, tomato paste, honey and rice wine vinegar. Once combined, refrigerate until just before serving.
Once the marinating is complete, heat a large skillet, griddle or cook top. Cook marinated beef and vegetables for about 8-10 minutes, giving them a stir occasionally. (discard any remaining marinade not cooked to keep from cross contaminating.)
Garnish if desired and serve hot with yum yum sauce and rice.

FAQ:
- What kind of beef should i use?
- Flank steak or beef sirloin seems to be the best cut for stir fry type of dishes. That said, I do tenderize it if i have time. Add arrowroot starch or corn starch and little baking soda to tenderize the meat. Combine until well incorporated and and set aside in the fridge for 15-20 minutes or up to 24 hrs.
- Why are beef dishes so tender at Chinese restaurants?
- It's called velveting! Velveting involves coating and marinating meat in a mixture of cornstarch, rice wine, egg whites, salt, sugar for about 30-45 minutes. All you need is 1 egg white, 1 tablespoon rice wine, 1 tablespoon oil, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Coat your meat and marinade for at least half an hour. If you have time it's definitely worth it!
- How long will it keep in the fridge?
- You can happily keep them in the fridge for 3 days. Either reheat it in pan for a crispy texture or microwave it for a few seconds
