What Are Salmon Croquettes
Salmon croquettes are another name for salmon patties. It's a wonderful combination of fish, vegetables, egg and breadcrumbs. It's usually deep fried, but I like to give it a shallow fry.
Why You'll Love These Salmon Croquettes
- Versatile – These salmon croquettes can play the star in many different dinners. You can choose to serve light sides, like salad or roasted veggies, or something heartier like a croquette sandwich, or with fries or rice. You can use fresh salmon, just make sure you use cooked salmon. In fact, this is also a great way to repurpose baked salmon.
- Great Introduction to Seafood – This dish is a great way to ease picky eaters into seafood. Most times, young children turn their nose to fish. The fishiness is subtle, so it’s a great introduction to other seafood in the future! It's also a great baby led weaning recipe.
Ingredients For Salmon Croquettes
- Breadcrumbs – It is up to you whether you’d prefer to use breadcrumbs or panko. Breadcrumbs will have more of a crunchy coating, while panko tends to be on the crispier side.
- Canned Salmon – This recipe called for a can of salmon, but if you’ve recently made salmon for dinner, you could definitely repurpose your leftovers into these salmon cakes.
- Red and Green Pepper – Peppers are full of vitamin C, plus they’ll add a nice crunch for texture.
- Greek Yogurt – If you don’t have Greek yogurt available, you can use mayonnaise to keep these cakes together. I like using Greek yogurt as it gives the dish a lighter feel and it also boasts many health benefits, including high protein, calcium, and B-12.
- Egg – The egg will help bind the patties.
- Worcestershire – This hard-to-pronounce sauce adds the perfect dose of flavor. Don’t skip it!
- Old Bay Seasoning – Old Bay is the quintessential seafood seasoning. Looking for more uses for your stash? Try it on your popcorn!
- Butter and Olive Oil – I like to use half and half. There is a special flavor to foods that have been fried in butter, and I couldn’t bear to leave that touch out of this recipe. But halving it with olive oil keeps it from being too heavy and helps it to crisp nicely.
- Lemon – This is an optional garnish, but I recommend it! A fresh squeeze of lemon just before biting in is the cherry on top of the experience.

Now it's time to shape the salmon mixture into patties. I like to use a medium size cookie scooper for even sized patties. Then use the back of a spoon to flatten them out. You can also just form them with your hands.
Next, let's cook them up. In a pan, heat oil and butter over medium-high heat.
Then, add your patties into the pan. Make sure you don't over crowd them so flipping is them is easy. Pan fry patties for about 3-4 minutes per side. They should be golden brown when done.
Drain on paper towels if you wish and serve warm with ketchup or tartar sauce and/or drizzle some lemon juice.
