Pancakes are such a delight to have for breakfast. Make them into mini pancakes and it's even more fun! You can make it under 15 minutes! Because this makes such a cute mini sized breakfast, it is a fun weekend idea for kids too! Some people call them silver dollar pancakes too. Either them you'll love them.
You already know that you love pancakes, so this is merely a new way to enjoy them. Part of what makes these so fun is that you can top them however you like. If you want to add some really indulgent toppings, you could even serve these mini pancake bowls for dessert!
Why You'll Love These Mini Pancakes Bowls
- Top ‘Til You Drop – When I make full-sized pancakes I always end up feeling a little bit limited. It seems like everyone has a different preference as to whether the pancakes are plain, chocolate chip, or fruity. I really like coming up with unique flavors, too. With these mini pancake bowls, instead of mix-ins, everyone can add their preferred toppings, so I only need to prepare one bowl of batter!
- Cooks Faster – These mini pancakes cook so quickly that you can actually save a little bit of time compared to cooking regular pancakes. Any breakfast that can be prepared in 15 minutes is a win in my book! And before you say, I takes longer because of the pouring, yes it might, but we can't deny how much more fun this is!
Ingredients for Pancake Cereal
- Pancake Mix – For this recipe, you want to use complete pancake mix, so that all you have to do is add water. This method works best for these little pancakes, but if you don’t have any on hand, you can make your favorite pancake batter recipe as you normally would. You can also use my homemade pancake mix recipe.
- Water – Please follow the boxed pancake mix you use. For example, for my homemade mix you don't need water. For others, you will. T
- Oil – You will only need enough to grease your pan. Butter works, as well.
- Bottle – It is important to have a bottle with a small nozzle tip when making these mini pancakes. It will be too difficult to spoon the small amounts of batter out yourself, in a clean motion. Plus, the bottle allows you to work more quickly, so as to avoid burning any tiny pancakes!
- Optional Garnishes – The sky is the limit when it comes to topping your pancake bowls, however I suggest having a few classics on hand, including berries, mini chocolate chips, whipped cream, Nutella, and maple syrup.
How to Make It
- In a bowl, combine ingredients required for pancake mix per box instructions
- Preheat a thoroughly greased griddle or pan over medium heat.
- Fill squeeze bottle with pancake batter. Squeeze small portions of batter into the heated pan and cook for 20-30 seconds on each side.
- Transfer to bowl and garnish with favorite toppings. Serve hot.
Step by Step Instructions
First, mix your pancake batter. Follow box instructions or recipe instructions from my homemade pancake mix.
Grease your pan or griddle. Clarified butter is a great choice for this step, but oil works as well. Heat the pan to low/medium. Pour your pancake batter into the squeeze bottle.
Now it is time to cook your pancakes! Squeeze the batter onto the medium heated pan. Each pancake should be around the size of a quarter.
Cook for about 20-30 seconds, then flip and cook for an additional 20-30 seconds. Remember these pancakes cook fast! Don't walk away!
Serve your mini pancakes warm, in a bowl. Top as desired with syrup, berries, whipped cream, or any other garnishes!
Cook's Tips
- Mini pancakes are best enjoyed fresh, but if you happen to have leftovers, you can keep them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- For a really fun presentation, separate your batter into a few separate bottles, and add a few drops of food coloring into each one to make confetti pancake bowls!
- Some more topping ideas include: crushed oreos, lemon curd, marscapone, peanut butter, jam, chopped nuts, or instant coffee-infused icing.
- If you plan to host a brunch event, skip the bowls, and instead feature your mini pancakes on a breakfast charcuterie board!
FAQ:
This mini pancake bowl is also referred to as “pancake cereal” around the internet, because of the way it is served. It is a bowl full of miniature pancakes. You can choose to dress them up however you like, whether it be with milk for a true “pancake cereal” experience, or with syrup, fruit, or whipped cream. The possibilities are limitless!
You can store your mini pancakes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. You can also freeze them!
One of the tricks to ensuring great pancakes is to avoid over-mixing. You can whisk your dry ingredients before you add the water, to help break up any clumps, but lumpy batter is okay! You should also avoid flipping your pancakes too soon. Flip them when the bubbles on the surface have begun to pop. You can get fluffier pancakes if you allow the batter to rest for a few minutes before cooking.
